Objective
To determine the effect of cold cabbage leaf application on breast engorgement and pain during the postpartum period through a systematic review and meta-analysis.
Conclusions
In this systematic review and meta-analysis, we found that cold cabbage leaf application was effective in reducing breast pain, but that more experimental studies are needed to determine its effect on breast engorgement.
Critical Appraisal
Published research can offer valuable insights, but a paper’s conclusions may go beyond what its results support. Critical appraisal examines the methods, findings and limitations to clarify what can reasonably be concluded—and what remains uncertain.

Insights
Cold cabbage leaf application was effective in reducing breast pain.
The systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to assess the impact of cold cabbage leaf application on postpartum breast engorgement and pain. After a thorough search of Turkish and English databases, eight studies were included for analysis out of 25,996 results. The pooled results showed that cold cabbage leaf application led to a significant reduction in breast pain, but did not demonstrate a significant effect on breast engorgement. The researchers concluded that while this method effectively alleviates breast pain, further experimental studies are needed to better understand its impact on breast engorgement.
