Chinese Herbal Medicine for Wilson's Disease: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
Xu MB, Rong PQ, Jin TY, Zhang PP, Liang HY, Zheng GQ · Frontiers in Pharmacology · 2019 March 29
DOI 10.3389/fphar.2019.00277
Objective
To investigate the efficacy and safety of Chinese herbal medicines (CHM) for Wilson's disease (WD) and its possible mechanisms.
Conclusions
In conclusion, despite the apparent positive results, the present evidence supports, to a limited extent because of the methodological flaws and CHM heterogeneity, that CHM paratherapy can be used for patients with WD but could not be recommended as monotherapy in WD.
Critical Appraisal
Published research can offer valuable insights, but a paper’s conclusions may go beyond what its results support. Critical appraisal examines the methods, findings and limitations to clarify what can reasonably be concluded—and what remains uncertain.
