Comparative clinical-related outcomes of Chinese patent medicines for cardiac hypertrophy: A systematic review and network meta-analysis of randomized clinical trials
Zhang T, Xu H, Zhen D, Fu D, Zhao M, Wei C, Bai X · Frontiers in Pharmacology · 2023 January 23
DOI 10.3389/fphar.2023.963099
Objective
To estimate and compare the effectiveness of different mechanisms of Chinese patent medicines (CPMs) to improve clinical outcomes, including clinical efficacy and echocardiographic indices, in the treatment of cardiac hypertrophy patents.
Conclusions
The study showed that blood-activating and stasis-removing Chinese patent medicine (BASR-CPM) + Western medicine (WM) may be the potentially superior treatment regimen for improving clinical efficacy among cardiac hypertrophy patients.
Critical Appraisal
Published research can offer valuable insights, but a paper’s conclusions may go beyond what its results support. Critical appraisal examines the methods, findings and limitations to clarify what can reasonably be concluded—and what remains uncertain.

Blending traditional Chinese medicine with Western medicine shows potential for treating heart enlargement
Combined medicine of Chinese medicine and Western medicine worked well, possibly by improving blood flow and also showed promise in improving heart health. It suggests combining CPM and WM might be beneficial for heart enlargement, but more and better studies are needed to be sure.
