Objective
Wendan decoction (WDD), a classic herb prescription in China, has been extensively proved to improve metabolic syndrome (Mets) in clinics. However, till now, its pharmacological mechanisms remained vague. In this study, a systematic approach that integrated GC-TOF/MS based metabolomics, multivariate statistical techniques (PCA and PLS-DA), KEGG pathway analysis and molecular docking simulation was established to explore the pathophysiological mechanisms of Mets and elucidate the molecular mechanisms of WDD against Mets rats.
Conclusions
Overall, this study provided an effective and comprehensive approach for understanding the pathophysiological mechanisms of Mets and therapeutic mechanisms of WDD in treatment of Mets.
Critical Appraisal
Published research can offer valuable insights, but a paper’s conclusions may go beyond what its results support. Critical appraisal examines the methods, findings and limitations to clarify what can reasonably be concluded—and what remains uncertain.
