Objective
In the present study, a sensitive and selective ultra-high performance liquid chromatography coupled with quadrupole-time-of-flight mass spectrometry (UHPLC–Q-TOF-MS) method was developed to separate and identify the absorbed components and metabolites in rat plasma after oral administration of Zhi Zi Da Huang Decoction.
Conclusions
A total of 43 compounds, including 21 prototype compounds and 22 metabolites were detected and tentatively identified. Result indicated iridoid glycosides, anthraquinones, flavanones and their related metabolites were major constituents in rat plasma.
Critical Appraisal
Published research can offer valuable insights, but a paper’s conclusions may go beyond what its results support. Critical appraisal examines the methods, findings and limitations to clarify what can reasonably be concluded—and what remains uncertain.
