Objective
To investigate the application of BIOCERAMIC Resonance (BR), based on the meridian channels concept in traditional Chinese medicine, in patients with chronic sleep disorders and evaluate its effects on sleep quality, psychological factors, and brain wave activity.
Conclusions
BIOCERAMIC Resonance applied to the chest skin surface improved sleep quality, especially related to psychological causes, in 91.7% of the 36 patients with chronic sleep disorders. The treatment was associated with an elevation in the beta spectrum of the EEG (at 15–27 Hz) during the first 3 days. Functional MRI (fMRI) demonstrated corresponding cerebral and cerebellar areas of activation and deactivation, supporting the impact of BR on specific locations of the brain. This suggests that BR may be effective in improving sleep disorders, particularly those related to psychological factors, and could induce transient alterations in brain wave activity.
Critical Appraisal
Published research can offer valuable insights, but a paper’s conclusions may go beyond what its results support. Critical appraisal examines the methods, findings and limitations to clarify what can reasonably be concluded—and what remains uncertain.
