Meta-Analysis on scalp acupuncture based therapy in treating children cerebral palsy

Objective
To explore the effectiveness of scalp acupuncture in treating child cerebral palsy through a systematic review of literature published between 1999 and 2014.
Conclusions
The meta-analysis of 7 included studies, comprising a total of 796 cases (416 in the treatment group and 380 in the control group), demonstrated that scalp acupuncture significantly increased the total effective rate of child cerebral palsy by 17%. The total effective rate in the treatment group was 90.9%, compared to 73.9% in the control group. The results suggest that scalp acupuncture is more effective than modern medicine comprehensive rehabilitation treatment for children with cerebral palsy. However, the study acknowledges the need for more high-quality literature to strengthen the evidence supporting the application of scalp acupuncture in clinical practice.
