Objective
To investigate the feasibility of applying a partially randomized patients' preference (PRPP) trial in the clinical evaluation of acupuncture versus cupping therapy for fibromyalgia.
Conclusions
The PRPP model, which combines both random assignment and patients' preferences, is suitable for the clinical evaluation of non-pharmaceutical therapies such as acupuncture and cupping for fibromyalgia, with no significant differences observed in drop-out rates, patient expectation, and satisfaction between the two treatment modalities.
Critical Appraisal
Published research can offer valuable insights, but a paper’s conclusions may go beyond what its results support. Critical appraisal examines the methods, findings and limitations to clarify what can reasonably be concluded—and what remains uncertain.
