Objective
To analyze the scientific literature on the use of bee products, including honey, propolis, royal jelly, pollen, apilarnil, and bee venom, for the prevention and treatment of oral mucositis induced by chemotherapy or radiotherapy.
Conclusions
Honey, propolis, and royal jelly show evidence for their effectiveness in preventing and treating oral mucositis resulting from chemotherapy or radiotherapy, with potential integration into a comprehensive approach alongside established concepts like oral care, oral cryotherapy, topical vitamin E, and low-level-laser therapy. However, the quality of existing meta-analyses is generally low, and further studies, especially on combinations of various strategies, are needed.
