Garner BK, Hopkinson SG, Ketz AK, Landis CA, Trego LL · Medical Acupuncture · 2018 October
DOI 10.1089/acu.2018.1294
Objective
To assess the feasibility and credibility of auricular acupuncture and evaluate its effects on pain severity and interference scores, as well as insomnia severity, over an 8-day study period.
Conclusions
Auricular acupuncture demonstrated high feasibility and credibility as a treatment modality, leading to significant reductions in pain severity and interference scores, as well as improved insomnia severity compared to usual care, suggesting it could be a potential option for treating chronic pain and insomnia, particularly in populations like military beneficiaries.
Critical Appraisal
Published research can offer valuable insights, but a paper’s conclusions may go beyond what its results support. Critical appraisal examines the methods, findings and limitations to clarify what can reasonably be concluded—and what remains uncertain.
