The combination of acupuncture and moxibustion therapy is scientifically validated for enhancing the recovery rate in Bell's palsy patients.
The study employed 102 participants suffering from Bell's palsy, with ages ranging from 12 to 73. These patients were divided into two groups: one group (of 52 people) received moxibustion acupuncture (experimental group), and the other (of 50 people) was treated with only medications (control group). The House Brackmann Grading system was executed as the analytical tool, taking measurements before the treatment, then repeating after 3 weeks, and finally at 6 weeks.
In their analysis of the results, the researchers found a meaningful reduction in House Brackmann scores for both groups at 3 weeks and 6 weeks post-treatment in comparison with the scores before treatment. Furthermore, there was a significant decrement in the scores of the groups at the 6-week mark when compared with the 3-week scores. Notably, the experimental group exhibited a more substantial reduction in scores after 3 weeks and 6 weeks of treatment than the control group, establishing the positive impact of combined acupuncture and moxibustion therapy.
