Traditional Chinese Medicine fumigation and Musk suppositories safely enhance postoperative recovery, reduce inflammation and complications, and elevate patient quality of life post-hemorrhoidectomy.
In this prospective, stratified randomized study, 160 patients suffering from mixed hemorrhoids and undergoing Milligan-Morgan Hemorrhoidectomy were grouped according to hemorrhoid grades into four categories: Traditional Chinese medicine fumigation combined with Musk suppositories, fumigation only, suppository only, and a control group. An additional 40 patients were selected as an internal validation group to confirm the consistency of results. The primary measure of success was the speed of complete wound epithelialization by day 14 post-operation, with secondary factors including wound healing time, total effectiveness four weeks post-operation, anal function, serum inflammatory markers, complications, and quality of life.
The groups had equal baseline attributes. The combined group of TCM fumigation and Musk suppository produced the best recovery results by day 14 post-operation, displaying the shortest wound healing time and highest total effectiveness four weeks after the operation. The combined treatment also improved anal function, significantly reduced inflammatory markers, had fewer complications, and resulted in higher quality of life scores.
