Electroacupuncture is effective in reducing postoperative pain in patients who have undergone surgery for mixed hemorrhoids.
The study conducted a meta-analysis on randomized controlled trials taken from PubMed and Cochrane Library to evaluate the impact of electroacupuncture on postoperative pain management in mixed hemorrhoid cases. The reviewers used the risk of bias assessment tool to gauge the methodological quality of the studies, and used Stata 14.0 software for the meta-analysis calculations. They calculated the weighted mean differences when the outcome variables were reported in the same way, and used standardized mean differences for different reporting methods.
In the analysis process, the researchers found that patients who received electroacupuncture showed significantly lower postoperative pain scores when compared to a control group, with this distinction being evident at various postoperative time intervals: 6 hours, 12 hours, 24 hours, and 72 hours postoperatively. This indicates a concrete positive effect of electroacupuncture on reducing pain experienced after having surgery for mixed hemorrhoids.
