The Chinese botanical formulation, Kangbainian lotion, can drastically improve symptoms in Vulvovaginal candidiasis by hindering the growth of azole-resistant fungi and reducing vaginal inflammation.
In the methodology of this study, different dosages of Kangbainian lotion were administered to model mice suffering from Vulvovaginal candidiasis caused by fluconazole-resistant fungi. Antifungal and anti-inflammatory effects of the treatment were subsequently observed and analyzed. Part of the investigation focused on the action of Kangbainian lotion against the Fluconazole-resistant fungi and the mechanisms through which it contributes to the reduction of inflammation, taking into consideration its influence on the Dectin-1 signaling pathway.
The findings of the study revealed that Kangbainian lotion exhibited strong antifungal and anti-inflammatory effects. It inhibited the growth of the fungi and reduced vaginal inflammation. More specifically, the lotion hindered biofilm and hypha formation, decreased adhesion, suppressed ergosterol synthesis, and limited the expression of certain genes related to ergosterol synthesis and drug-resistance. On the inflammation front, the botanical treatment decreased the expression of inflammatory factor proteins in vaginal tissues while also inhibiting the expression of proteins related to the Dectin-1 signaling pathway. Importantly, these effects could potentially enhance patient comfort and therapy adherence.
