Activation likelihood estimation identifies brain regions activated during puncturing at Hegu in healthy volunteers: A meta-analysis
Gao Z, Cui M, Zhang J, Ji L · Frontiers in Neuroscience · 2022 December 22
DOI 10.3389/fnins.2022.1084362
Objective
To investigate the brain response characteristics of acupuncture at Hegu in healthy volunteers using functional neuroimaging studies and activation likelihood estimation analysis.
Conclusions
Acupuncture at Hegu in healthy volunteers did not reveal specific brain regions, implying that the organismal status of study subjects may influence the effects of acupoints.
Critical Appraisal
Published research can offer valuable insights, but a paper’s conclusions may go beyond what its results support. Critical appraisal examines the methods, findings and limitations to clarify what can reasonably be concluded—and what remains uncertain.
