Objective
To investigate the brain activation patterns associated with acupuncture at Stomach 36 by conducting a meta-analysis of functional magnetic resonance imaging studies.
Conclusions
This meta-analysis provides a brain atlas for acupuncture at Stomach 36, identifying activation in the left cerebellum, bilateral Rolandic operculum, right supramarginal gyrus, and right cerebellum, with functional associations mainly involving action and perception.
Critical Appraisal
Published research can offer valuable insights, but a paper’s conclusions may go beyond what its results support. Critical appraisal examines the methods, findings and limitations to clarify what can reasonably be concluded—and what remains uncertain.
