Objective
To investigate changes in sensorimotor cortical neural activity during Tui Na at the Hegu acupoint in patients with post-stroke upper limb motor dysfunction and healthy controls using functional near-infrared spectroscopy.
Conclusions
The combination of Tui Na and functional near-infrared spectroscopy can reflect the functional status of sensorimotor neural circuits, and changes in sensorimotor cortical activity during Hegu acupoint Tui Na indicate a correlation between traditional Chinese medicine acupoints and neural circuits.
Critical Appraisal
Published research can offer valuable insights, but a paper’s conclusions may go beyond what its results support. Critical appraisal examines the methods, findings and limitations to clarify what can reasonably be concluded—and what remains uncertain.
