Objective
To investigate how acupuncture manipulation at the Hegu acupoint modulates the cortical functional network in healthy subjects.
Conclusions
Acupuncture manipulation at the Hegu acupoint modulated a cooperative prefrontal cortex–motor functional network by inhibiting bilateral prefrontal and motor cortex activity while increasing prefrontal cortex connectivity and network efficiency.
Critical Appraisal
Published research can offer valuable insights, but a paper’s conclusions may go beyond what its results support. Critical appraisal examines the methods, findings and limitations to clarify what can reasonably be concluded—and what remains uncertain.
