Innervated Properties of Acupuncture Points LI 4 and LR 3 in the Rat: Neural Pathway Tracing with Cholera Toxin Subunit B
Cui J, Wang J, Bai W · Medical Acupuncture · 2019 June
DOI 10.1089/acu.2019.1334
Objective
To investigate the sensory and motor pathways associated with the acupuncture points Hegu (LI 4) and Taichong (LR 3) in rat extremities by comparing their neuroanatomical innervation patterns.
Conclusions
The study provides evidence that Hegu (LI 4) and Taichong (LR 3) have differential innervation connected to the nervous system through distinct segmental and regional spinal sensory and motor pathways.
Critical Appraisal
Published research can offer valuable insights, but a paper’s conclusions may go beyond what its results support. Critical appraisal examines the methods, findings and limitations to clarify what can reasonably be concluded—and what remains uncertain.
