Acupressure at either the Spleen 6 or Hugo point similarly relieved pain after vaginal childbirth without reported adverse effects.
The study randomly assigned first-time mothers experiencing pain after vaginal delivery to receive acupressure at either the Hugo point or the Spleen 6 point. Pressure was applied on both sides of the body in repeated short intervals over a treatment session. Participants rated their pain before treatment, immediately afterwards, and one hour later; participants were unaware of group allocation, although researchers and analysts were not blinded.
Pain decreased over time in both acupressure groups, with no meaningful difference between the two points after treatment or one hour later. Although pain levels differed between groups before treatment, both approaches appeared similarly effective for postpartum pain relief, and no important side effects were reported.
