Non-penetrating Silver Spike Point electrodes improved refractory overactive bladder symptoms, suggesting a less invasive alternative to needle-based tibial nerve stimulation.
This prospective single-arm study enrolled adults with refractory overactive bladder for six weeks of tibial nerve stimulation using surface Silver Spike Point electrodes. Participants received twice-weekly sessions lasting thirty minutes, with electrodes placed at bilateral Sanyinjiao and Zhaohai points. Researchers assessed changes in overactive bladder symptom scores, incontinence questionnaire scores, urinary urgency, and leakage recorded in frequency-volume charts, while monitoring adverse events.
Participants who completed treatment showed improvements in overall overactive bladder symptoms and urinary incontinence-related quality-of-life scores. Daily urgency episodes and leakage episodes also declined, indicating that non-penetrating tibial nerve stimulation may reduce key symptoms of refractory overactive bladder, although one participant discontinued because of an adverse event.
