Moxibustion applied to the Sanyinjiao acupoint improved healthcare workers’ anxiety, depression, sleep, burnout, and quality of life during coronavirus disease.
Healthcare workers were randomly assigned to receive either daily moxibustion at the Sanyinjiao acupoint or no treatment. The intervention involved thirty-minute sessions over two weeks, followed by a two-week observation period. Researchers assessed anxiety, depression, occupational burnout, insomnia, and quality of life before treatment, after the intervention, and at follow-up using standardized questionnaires.
Participants receiving moxibustion showed greater improvements than untreated participants in anxiety, depressive symptoms, sleep difficulties, burnout, and quality of life. The benefits were evident after treatment and remained present at follow-up, while the abstract supports moxibustion as a safe approach for supporting healthcare workers’ psychological wellbeing and sleep during coronavirus disease.
