Electroacupuncture improved ovarian function in mice by reshaping kidney energy metabolism and liver neurotransmitter metabolism disrupted by premature ovarian failure.
Researchers induced premature ovarian failure in mice using cisplatin, then delivered electroacupuncture at Sanyinjiao and Guanyuan points for three weeks. They examined blood, ovarian, liver, and kidney samples using tissue analysis, molecular techniques, and hydrogen nuclear magnetic resonance metabolomics, with multivariate modelling used to compare metabolic profiles.
Electroacupuncture improved ovarian function and menstrual cycling while correcting metabolic disturbances in the liver and kidneys. Its strongest kidney effects involved energy-related metabolism, whereas its liver effects were more pronounced for neurotransmitter-related metabolism, linking these organ-specific changes to improved ovarian health.
