Stimulating the Sanyinjiao acupuncture point alone may improve sleep quality and increase deep and rapid eye movement sleep in people with insomnia.
Researchers systematically searched English- and Chinese-language databases for randomized controlled trials evaluating stimulation of the single Sanyinjiao acupuncture point for insomnia. Two reviewers independently assessed study methods and reporting quality, then combined outcomes on sleep quality, clinical improvement, and sleep duration measured through overnight sleep monitoring.
Across the included studies, Sanyinjiao stimulation was associated with better self-reported sleep quality, longer deep sleep, longer rapid eye movement sleep, and greater overall clinical improvement. However, weaknesses in trial design and reporting limited confidence in these findings.
