XiaojiDaozhi Decoction improved bowel function and patient satisfaction more effectively than placebo for children with constipation without important safety concerns.
Children with constipation were randomly assigned in a double-blind, placebo-controlled trial to receive either XiaojiDaozhi Decoction, a traditional Chinese herbal preparation, or placebo for eight weeks, followed by a further observation period. Researchers assessed complete spontaneous bowel movements, satisfaction with bowel function, and safety through blood laboratory testing and adverse-effect monitoring.
Children receiving XiaojiDaozhi Decoction showed better treatment response and greater satisfaction with bowel function than those receiving placebo by the end of follow-up. The herbal treatment was reported to be safe, with no important adverse effects identified through laboratory monitoring.
