Pediatric tuina appears to improve overall allergic rhinitis outcomes and reduce nasal symptoms in children compared with several alternative treatments.
Researchers systematically searched English, Chinese, Japanese, and Korean medical databases for randomized controlled trials published up to February 2021. They independently screened studies and extracted data, assessed study quality using a standard risk-of-bias tool, and combined eligible trial findings through meta-analysis.
Across the included studies, pediatric tuina used alone or alongside other treatments showed better overall effectiveness than Chinese herbal medicine, acupuncture, Western medicine, and other comparators. It was also associated with improvements in nasal congestion, runny nose, sneezing, and turbinate swelling.
