Objective
To assess the benefits and harms of acupuncture, in comparison with no treatment, sham acupuncture, conventional medicine, standard care, or other non‐pharmacological active interventions for symptom management in people with gastroparesis.
Conclusions
There is very low‐certainty evidence for a short‐term benefit with acupuncture alone or combined with gastrokinetic drugs compared with the drug alone, in terms of the proportion of people who experienced an improvement in diabetic gastroparesis.
Critical Appraisal
Published research can offer valuable insights, but a paper’s conclusions may go beyond what its results support. Critical appraisal examines the methods, findings and limitations to clarify what can reasonably be concluded—and what remains uncertain.
