Objective
To assess the effectiveness of acupuncture treatment on pediatric nocturnal enuresis.
Conclusions
Acupuncture seems to be as effective as conventional drug therapy providing a similar reduction in the number of wet nights, though no statistically significance emerged and low quality of the included studies might have overestimated results. Results show that acupuncture may represent an attractive and promising modality for managing NE and could be considered as an alternative therapy for patients with contraindications to conventional treatment, though shared protocols are indeed needed.
Critical Appraisal
Published research can offer valuable insights, but a paper’s conclusions may go beyond what its results support. Critical appraisal examines the methods, findings and limitations to clarify what can reasonably be concluded—and what remains uncertain.
