Pediatric massage for the treatment of anorexia in children: A meta-analysis
Gao, L., Jia, C.-H., Ma, S.-S., & Wu, T. · World Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine · 2018 October 10
DOI 10.4103/wjtcm.wjtcm_12_18
Objective
To evaluate the efficacy of massage therapy for the treatment of anorexia in children.
Conclusions
Massage therapy was significantly better than pharmacotherapy in treating anorexia in children. However, the quality of evidence for this finding was low due to the high risk of bias of the included studies. Thus, well-designed RCTs are still needed to further evaluate the efficacy of massage therapy.
Critical Appraisal
Published research can offer valuable insights, but a paper’s conclusions may go beyond what its results support. Critical appraisal examines the methods, findings and limitations to clarify what can reasonably be concluded—and what remains uncertain.
