Objective
To systematically evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of acupuncture in the treatment of Tic Disorders (TD) in children, and to clarify the current evidence regarding the clinical application of acupuncture in the treatment of TD.
Conclusions
This review suggests that acupuncture treatment alone is more effective in the treatment of TD than pharmaceutical treatment, as seen in the reduction of Yale Global Tic Severity Scale (YGTSS) scores, fewer adverse effects and lower recurrence rates.
Critical Appraisal
Published research can offer valuable insights, but a paper’s conclusions may go beyond what its results support. Critical appraisal examines the methods, findings and limitations to clarify what can reasonably be concluded—and what remains uncertain.
