Objective
Therefore, this study focuses on summarizing the characteristics and advantages of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) in acupuncture treatment for erectile dysfunction (ED) based on relevant literature and on predicting and analyzing the related mechanisms.
Conclusions
In the treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED), the selection of the acupoints is focused on ren meridians and kidney meridians, often combining the acupoints at the distal ends of the extremities and abdomen. The results of the present research show that acupuncture is effective in the treatment of ED, especially functional ED, and conforms to the guidelines for providing comprehensive treatment but is limited by insufficient evidence.
Critical Appraisal
Published research can offer valuable insights, but a paper’s conclusions may go beyond what its results support. Critical appraisal examines the methods, findings and limitations to clarify what can reasonably be concluded—and what remains uncertain.
