Objective
To determine the effect of whole kiwifruit components that escape gastric and small intestinal digestion on the colonic microbiota and metabolites in an in vitro batch culture gut model.
Conclusions
In summary, we have shown that kiwifruit non-digestible polysaccharides have a number of effects on gut microbial ecology.
Critical Appraisal
Published research can offer valuable insights, but a paper’s conclusions may go beyond what its results support. Critical appraisal examines the methods, findings and limitations to clarify what can reasonably be concluded—and what remains uncertain.
