Objective
To critically review the scientific evidence on the role of diet, nutrition, and lifestyle in urological diseases, focusing on the impact of micronutrients and polyphenols found in soy, green tea, fruits, and vegetables. The review particularly emphasizes the robust evidence supporting the efficacy of pomegranate in modulating central biological processes related to inflammation, hypoxia, and oxidative stress, with a focus on its therapeutic potential in erectile dysfunction, benign prostatic hyperplasia, and prostate cancer.
Conclusions
The review highlights the growing evidence linking diet, nutrition, and lifestyle to urological diseases, with a specific emphasis on the scientifically supported role of pomegranate extracts. Preclinical studies demonstrate pomegranate's impact on inflammation, hypoxia, and oxidative stress, while clinical trials support its therapeutic use, especially in the management of prostate cancer. The critical review aims to provide insights into the current role and future prospects of pomegranate extracts in treating urological conditions.
