Objective
To investigate the influence of early electroacupuncture (EA) intervention on brain lipid composition in the hippocampus and prefrontal cortex (PFC) of mice subjected to a modified single prolonged stress (mSPS) model of PTSD.
Conclusions
Early intervention with EA alleviated PTSD-like behaviors induced by mSPS in mice, potentially mediated by region-specific normalization of lipid composition in the hippocampus. This suggests that EA may exert therapeutic effects in PTSD through modulation of the brain lipidome.
Critical Appraisal
Published research can offer valuable insights, but a paper’s conclusions may go beyond what its results support. Critical appraisal examines the methods, findings and limitations to clarify what can reasonably be concluded—and what remains uncertain.
