Jingjin acupuncture therapy shows more efficacy than conventional therapy in treating peripheral facial paralysis.
Using a systematic and comprehensive computerized search on various databases like PubMed, EMBASE and Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Clinical Studies, SCOPUS, Web of Science, PEDro, China Knowledge, Wanfang, and Wipu databases, the team sought out published randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that involved the use of Jingjin acupuncture therapy for peripheral facial paralysis. A two-person team independently extracted data from the results, which were then assessed for quality before undergoing meta-analysis through RevMan5.4 software.
The research encompassed as many as 19 randomized controlled trials and encompassed 1,436 patients overall. Analysis revealed that Jingjin acupuncture therapy played out much more effectively compared to the typical strategies employed to treat peripheral facial palsy. For starters, the overall effectiveness rate was higher, and there was even a significantly increased cure rate. Moreover, in assessing patients' Facial Disability Index-Physical scores, Facial Disability Index-Social scores, facial nerve function scores, and Portmann scores, Jingjin acupuncture therapy outperformed standard acupuncture practices. From these observations, it becomes clear that Jingjin acupuncture therapy holds great promise as a treatment for peripheral facial paralysis.
