Tianma-Gouteng granules, a traditional Chinese medicine, reduces blood pressure and improves related conditions by regulating bile acid metabolism.
In the methodology, spontaneously hypertensive rats were induced with an ascendant hyperactivity of liver yang syndrome. Observations were subsequently recorded regarding blood pressure and the general state of the animals. Numerous experiments were then conducted, including enzyme assays, ultra high-performance liquid chromatography-quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry, 16S rRNA sequencing, real-time fluorescence quantitative PCR, and enzymatic colorimetry.
The results demonstrated that Tianma-Gouteng granules effectively decreased blood pressure and improved related symptoms. The compound reduced relevant inflammation markers and significantly altered several metabolic pathways, including glycerophospholipid metabolism and primary bile acid biosynthesis. Tianma-Gouteng granules also modified a variety of microbiota levels, reflecting its influence on the liver-gut axis, interfering with related intestinal flora and plasma metabolites. The alterations induced by the granules help regulate overall bile acid levels, thereby outlining its role in managing hypertension.
