Acupressure at two specific body points improved sexual desire, orgasm, satisfaction, and overall sexual function in women taking antidepressants.
In a randomized clinical trial, women of reproductive age taking selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor antidepressants who reported sexual dysfunction were assigned to acupressure or placebo-point treatment. The intervention involved pressure at two traditional acupressure points, while the control group received pressure at alternative placebo points. Treatments were delivered twice weekly for two months, and sexual function was assessed before and after treatment using a validated female sexual function questionnaire.
Women receiving acupressure at the designated points experienced greater improvements in sexual desire, orgasm intensity, satisfaction, and overall sexual function than those receiving placebo-point pressure. The findings indicate that targeted acupressure may help reduce sexual difficulties associated with antidepressant use.
