Objective
Fuzi, which is the processed lateral roots of Aconitum carmichaeli Debx. (Ranunculaceae), is a traditional herbal medicine that is well known for its excellent pharmacological effects and acute toxicity. This paper seeks to present a comprehensive review regarding the phytochemistry, pharmacokinetic features and toxicity of Fuzi.
Conclusions
The toxicity of DDAs is acute. However, further investigations are necessary to determine the exact toxicological mechanisms. Furthermore, there is significance suggesting that the herb will work well with other herbs with similar properties. In the future, the use of Fuzi as personalized medicine is necessary and practical to achieve ideal therapeutic efficacy with minimal toxicity.
Critical Appraisal
Published research can offer valuable insights, but a paper’s conclusions may go beyond what its results support. Critical appraisal examines the methods, findings and limitations to clarify what can reasonably be concluded—and what remains uncertain.
