The used liquid chromatographies successfully identified 28 of the complex compounds found in traditional Chinese medicine - Tian Gui You (TGY).
The abstract describes the use of two separate liquid chromatography methods to analyze small molecule components of different TGY samples. The first, Ultra-High Performance Liquid Chromatography, was coupled with quadrupole-tandem time-of-flight mass spectrometry, whereas the second used High-Performance Liquid Chromatography coupled with Evaporative Light Scattering Detection to quantify three major saccharides. The linearity, sensitivity, precision, accuracy, and stability of these methods were validated.
The researchers were able to identify macromolecules in the samples using an ethanol precipitation method. Twenty-eight out of the complex compounds found in TGY were successfully identified, with twenty being quantified. The components located via this strategy accounted for a significant proportion of the total weight of the TGY samples.
