Acupuncture for benign prostatic hyperplasia predominantly targets ten specific acupoints, which potentially play a critical role in symptom alleviation.
The research involved sourcing and examining clinical studies on acupuncture and moxibustion published before September 30, 2024 related to benign prostatic hyperplasia from various databases including CNKI, WANFANG, VIP, PubMed, and ScienceDirect. The acupoint patterns within these studies were systematically analysed using the Traditional Chinese Medicine Inheritance Assistance Platform.
It was determined that there were sixty-one unique acupoints identified across the analysed studies with ten specific points being most frequently selected. These acupoints were predominantly located on the Conception Vessel, Bladder, and Spleen meridians, chiefly concentrated in the chest, abdomen, back and waist regions. Analysis demonstrated robust associations between these acupoints, with key combinations emerging from the data set. The gathered evidence suggests that these acupoints and meridians may be significant for the reduction of symptoms associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia.
