Ryutanshakanto, combined with tamsulosin, significantly reduced pain in patients with chronic prostatitis and chronic pelvic pain syndrome.
The study utilized a prospective, randomized, double-blind method to assess the combination's efficacy or placebo of tamsulosin and Ryutanshakanto on patients suffering from lower urinary tract symptoms due to benign prostatic hyperplasia. The study evaluated the International Prostate Symptom Score, quality of life index, complete voiding diary, and the National Institutes of Health-Chronic Prostatitis Symptom Index at baseline and after 4, 8 and 12 weeks. Uroflowmetry and post-void residual urine volume measurements were also taken along with necessary laboratory tests.
The analysis of the results showcased an improvement in all the assessed groups for both International Prostate Symptom Score and the quality of life indicators. No significant differences were noted among the three groups. The prostate volume showed an increase post-treatment along with improvement in uroflowmetric parameters, however, without any significant differences among the groups. There was a meaningful improvement in the total score of the National Institutes of Health-Chronic Prostatitis Symptom Index across all groups. Among these, the tamsulosin with Ryutanshakanto group displayed a significant decrease in the pain sub-score compared to the control group. The study also witnessed a few mild adverse reactions, unrelated to the study drugs.
