Laser acupuncture therapy significantly improves bladder capacity and reduces bed wetness in adolescent females suffering from chronic nocturnal enuresis.
In this study, sixty adolescent females who had been diagnosed with chronic nocturnal enuresis were randomly divided into two equal groups. One group was given laser acupuncture therapy and desmopressin, while the other (control) group received only desmopressin. The laser acupuncture treatment was administered three times a week for twelve successive weeks. Both abdominal ultrasonography and voiding calendars were used to measure bladder capacity and maximum voiding volumes respectively, during the study.
The results showed definite improvements in the group that received both the laser acupuncture and the desmopressin treatments. Specifically, bladder capacity was observed to increase significantly more in this group than in the control group, and the frequency of bed wetting episodes decreased, as recorded in the personal diaries of the participants. This suggests that laser acupuncture can have a beneficial effect on chronic nocturnal enuresis in adolescent females.
