Combining laser acupuncture with desmopressin produced the highest cure rates for persistent bedwetting while acupuncture also increased bladder capacity.
Patients with persistent monosymptomatic nocturnal enuresis underwent clinical assessment, urine testing, urinary tract imaging, and abdominal ultrasonography. They were randomly assigned to receive laser acupuncture alone, desmopressin alone, or both treatments together for three months, followed by monitoring for six months to assess treatment response, adverse effects, and bladder capacity.
The combined treatment achieved more cures than either laser acupuncture or desmopressin used alone. Improvement rates were broadly similar across groups, while increased bladder capacity occurred only among participants who received laser acupuncture, either alone or combined with desmopressin.
