Laser acupuncture appeared more effective and better tolerated than medication for reducing childhood bedwetting, with fewer recurrences after treatment ended.
Children with nighttime bedwetting were randomly assigned to receive desmopressin medication, laser acupuncture, or both treatments, while all groups also received behavioural guidance. Researchers assessed treatment response, adverse effects, bladder capacity, and diary-recorded wetting episodes before treatment, after three months of treatment, and following treatment cessation.
Laser acupuncture produced the highest rate of symptom resolution, whereas medication alone and combined treatment mainly produced partial improvement. It was painless, noninvasive, and associated with no reported side effects, as well as a lower recurrence rate after treatment stopped.
