In studying the efficacy and safety of seven Chinese patent medicines added to standard therapies for peptic ulcers, a systematic review and network meta-analysis were employed. These medicines included capsules, tablets, granules, and liquids with distinct names extracted from multiple databases such as China National Knowledge Infrastructure, VIP database, Wanfang database, ScienceDirect, EBSCO, EMBASE, Web of Science, Cochrane Library and PubMed. The focus was on trials involving these medications combined with conventional triple/quadruple therapy, with recorded outcomes like complete ulcer healing rate, effective rate, eradication rate, rate of peptic ulcer recurrence and incidence of adverse reactions.

A total of 36 randomised controlled trials involving 3620 patients were included in the findings. The results showed that compared to conventional therapy alone, combinations involving Weisu, Weifuchun, and Puyuanhewei exhibited the highest rates of complete ulcer healing, effectiveness, and eradication, respectively. Additionally, the lowest recurrence rates were observed with Weisu and Jianwaiyuyang. Meanwhile, the lowest incidence of adverse reactions was recorded with Jianweiyuyang. Cluster analysis further indicated Jianweiyuyang as the most advantageous choice, given its simultaneous efficacy and safety measures, followed by Kangfuxin.
