Combining Gegen-Heisu decoction with estrogen-progestin therapy effectively enhances endometrial receptivity, representing a promising additional treatment for thin endometrium-related infertility.
In this single-center, prospective randomized controlled study, 250 women suffering from thin endometrium were engaged. The participants were divided randomly into a control group, which was provided with estradiol and dydrogesterone, and a GHD group, where GHD was administrated alongside estradiol and dydrogesterone. The primary focus of the study was on the changes in the thickness and type of the endometrium on the ovulation day, while secondary outcomes evaluated blood flow parameters, traditional Chinese medicine syndrome scores, serum leukemia inhibitory factor levels, and vascular endothelial growth factor levels.
Upon monitoring, significant improvements were observed in endometrial thickness and type in the GHD group compared with the control group. The GHD group also showed positive effects on blood flow to the uterus, with a reduction in the pulsation and resistance indices of the uterine spiral arteries. Further, GHD was seen to modulate key bodily responses, as reflected in decreased traditional Chinese medicine syndrome scores and increased serum leukemia inhibitory factors. No severe side effects linked to kidney or liver functions were reported, although rare instances of skin itchiness and gastrointestinal discomfort were noted in the GHD and control groups, respectively.
