Diabetic rats supplemented with coconut water demonstrated a decrease in fasting blood sugar levels and prevented weight loss. Additionally, coconut water mitigated diabetic retinal damage, as evidenced by a reduction in total retinal thickness and normalization of VEGF expression in the retina. These findings suggest that coconut water has the potential to serve as a candidate drug or nutrient for treating diabetes and its complications.
