In summary, the antitumor activity of four sample materials from E. hyemale in OSCC cell lines was tested. The ethanol extract showed selective cytotoxicity against OSCC, and this effect was increased in the EHSa partition, that showed high cytotoxic activity and very high selectivity. In the in vivo experiment, the partition was shown to be anti-tumor, significantly reducing tumor growth.

This review reveals that the most widespread traditional use of Equisetum is as diuretic, followed by the treatment of genitourinary diseases. The most popular species from the Equisetum genus with medicinal use is E. arvense. Other species also demonstrate beneficial effects in experimental assays for different pharmacological purposes.
